C.O. Paeffgen (Claus Otto Paeffgen, * 1933 in Cologne; † 2019 in Cologne) was a prominent figure in the world of contemporary art, recognized for his distinctive approach to painting and mixed media artworks. Throughout his career, Paeffgen’s artistic expressions embraced a variety of styles, often blurring the lines between abstraction and representation.
Emerging in the 1960s, Paeffgen initially gained attention for his participation in the German art movement called “Capitalist Realism.” Alongside other notable artists like Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke, he challenged traditional artistic conventions by blending elements of pop culture, advertising, and consumerism in his art.
Paeffgen’s artistic evolution showcased a dynamic range, exploring diverse mediums and techniques. His works often incorporated collage, graffiti, and gestural elements, embodying a raw and expressive quality that engaged viewers with a sense of spontaneity and energy.
