Schönewald Fine Arts cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition René Wirths – From Life. The exhibit features 8 new works by the artist from 2014, 3 from 2013 and 1 self-portrait from the year 2011. On a white background, René Wirths reproduces objects, both enlarged and enriched, from every day life. Thereby, the reality of the object and the reality of the picture coexist. Alone the edges of the stretched canvas become the boundary between the inner reality of the depicted and it’s surrounding environment. When Wirths chooses an artifact for his artistic examination, he seems to always choose that one to which a certain symbolic value has been attached. Reproduced on canvas, the object turns into a statement on how we do “perceive” it, often superseding the “original” with “uniqueness”. According to Emily Ansenk, the curator of René Wirths – The Thing itself at Kunsthal Rotterdam in 2011, it is clear that the work of his is indepted to Magritte, “Ceci n’est pas une pomme”. In 1967, René Wirths was born in Waldbröl, Germany, and studied at HDK Universität der Künste in Berlin, Germany, from 1992 to 1998 and graduated as a Master of Fine Arts in 1998 in the Master Class of Professor Wolfgang Petrick.
