Biography

Donald Judd (* 1928 – † 1994) was an american artist who was a leading figure in Minimalist art that made a significant impact on the trajectory of contemporary sculpture and art theory. Renowned for his geometrically precise and industrially fabricated sculptures, his art focused on simple forms, often employing materials such as stainless steel, Plexiglas, and industrial metals, to create sleek, geometric structures. Judd’s emphasis on clarity, repetition, and objectivity in his work aimed to eliminate the artist’s hand and subjective interpretation, allowing the viewer an unmediated encounter with the artwork and the surrounding space.

Beyond his sculptural practice, Judd was a prolific writer and critical thinker, advocating for a direct and straightforward approach to art. His writings, including influential essays and critical texts, articulated his theories on art and aesthetics, significantly impacting the discourse on Minimalism and the role of the artist.
